When the fire comes,
your home is already defended.

Matador Fire installs a Managed Fire Defense System on your property — a reservoir of professional-grade, non-toxic retardant that coats your home on demand. It cuts the chance of ember ignition and buys first responders time to reach a home that's still standing. No $50,000–$125,000 roof sprinkler build, no waiting — you stay in control.

The new reality

The fire isn't the only thing
that can take your home.

Even if the flames miss you, your insurer might not. Across the West, carriers are pulling out of high-risk zip codes — and a home no one will insure is a home you can't sell or refinance. Defense is no longer optional.

Minutes
The window you actually get when embers arrive. Fire crews can't be everywhere at once — most homes are defended alone.
What you're up against

What happens to
unprotected homes.

When you evacuate, your home is left to face the fire alone. Here's why the usual answers fall short.

The garden-hose problem

Water only protects while you're standing there spraying it — and it evaporates within minutes in wildfire heat. Garden hoses also depend on municipal water pressure, which routinely fails when the grid and pumps go down.

The $50,000+ barrier

Professional roof-sprinkler systems run well into five figures and take months to install. They're built to save one home on the block — at that price, most neighbors go without.

Your neighbor's home becomes the threat

When a nearby house ignites it turns into a wall of radiant heat and a storm of flying embers. One unprotected home can take the whole street with it.

Firefighters have to make choices

In a fast-moving fire, crews can't defend every home — they triage, prioritizing houses that took preparatory steps. A staged, retardant-coated home is one they can pass by and trust.

The shift

Stop spraying after the evacuation order.
Coat the house before the ember does.

The old way

  • ×Gel or spray applied only once a fire is already close — if a crew can reach you
  • ×$50,000–$125,000 roof sprinkler systems, professionally installed and maintained

What is a Managed Fire Defense System?
Professional-grade retardant

The retardant

The fire retardant
that outlasts the fire.

Not all retardants are equal. Ours is a professional-grade, non-toxic chemistry engineered to keep protecting long after water would have evaporated.

Outlasts water

Stays active on your home wet or dry — protecting for hours, not the minutes water buys you.

Non-toxic

Safe around people, pets, and plants. EPA Category 4 — the lowest toxicity class — with no heavy metals.

Dries clear, rinses off

Goes on with a milky finish, dries nearly invisible, and washes away with water — no staining of paint, glass, or landscaping.

How it protects your home

Endothermic cooling

Absorbs heat on contact, pulling energy away from the surface before ignition can start.

Char barrier

Forms an insulating layer that shields the material underneath from direct flame and radiant heat.

Flame inhibition

Interrupts the chemical chain reaction of combustion, stopping fire from taking hold.

CAL FIRE tested to California Title 19 (State Fire Marshal standard). Of 50+ homes treated during the January 2025 fires, 100% remain standing.

Where it matters most

Prioritize your home's
most vulnerable surfaces.

When the embers come, you coat the places fire finds first. Your systems are sized and staged to reach every one.

Eaves & overhangs

Embers collect under roof edges — a leading cause of home ignition.

Vents & openings

Attic and crawlspace vents pull embers straight into the structure.

Base & perimeter

Ground litter and siding at the base are where most fires climb in.

Decks & fences

Combustible attachments act as a wick, carrying flame to the house.

How it runs

Choose your power. Same protection.

Every system is a complete kit sized to your home. Pick the pump that fits how you live — both deliver the same professional-grade coverage.

The people are accountable.

Firefighter-grade retardant

The same class of retardant chemistry professional crews rely on — engineered to stop combustion, not just wet a surface.

432 homes, one season*

In the 2025 season, professional firefighters applied this retardant chemistry and 432 treated homes came through. *Chemistry validation by professional crews — not a Matador Fire operations record.

    How to build your plan
    1. Place systems at strategic spots around the property — drag each numbered marker where you want it. The goal: position enough systems that, together, their hoses reach every structure and part of the yard you want defended.
    2. Lay each hose along the perimeter: drag the red points to route the hose around the house and yard. Each hose reaches 100 ft.
    3. Add or remove systems and hoses from the panel. Single-click a system to select it; double-click to remove it.
Each numbered marker is a system. Red lines + arrows show each hose's 100 ft reach. You'll choose gas or electric pumps at the next step — they cost the same.
    Step 2 of 4 · Your home

This is your home — and its first line of defense.

We've placed your first system with 100 ft of hose ready to protect the structure. Drag it to a strategic spot on the map, then continue — you'll add more systems and lay out coverage next.

    Firefighter
As a firefighter, I’ve seen that what you do before a wildfire hits often decides if a home is still standing. Matador Fire fits that mindset—it doesn’t replace firefighters, but its long-term retardant can buy us precious time to work when we arrive.

    Straight answers

Questions people ask before they're sure.

How does the system actually work?

Each system stages professional-grade fire retardant on your property with a self-contained gas or electric pump and 100 ft of hose. When fire threatens — in the critical window before an evacuation order — you coat your home and its perimeter. That sharply reduces the chance of ember ignition and buys first responders time to reach a home that's still standing. No plumbing, no sprinkler heads, no changes to your house.

Is the retardant safe around my family, pets, and plants?

Yes. It's a non-toxic, professional-grade retardant — rated EPA Category 4, the lowest toxicity category — with no heavy metals, and it's Cal Fire tested to California Title 19, Section 1237.1 (State Fire Marshal standard). It doesn't stain: it rinses off with water and a light brush.

Will it stain or damage my home, fences, or landscaping?

No. It goes on with a milky finish while wet and washes away cleanly with water — no staining of paint, fascia, glass, or plants. A single coat is all that's needed.

    What maintenance is included?

Two on-site visits per year for inspection, maintenance, and training. We test and prime the pump (and, on electric units, confirm the battery and charger) so the system is ready the moment it matters — and we make sure you're comfortable operating it.

Gas or electric — and what if the power's out?

Both deliver the same coverage. The gas system runs fully off-grid, which is why many customers choose it in wildfire country. The electric system is battery-backed, so it also runs during an outage.

    How high does it reach?

Both gas and electric systems reach about 35–45 feet vertically — roughly a two-story home. Taller or unusually complex properties get a tailored, custom solution.

How many systems do I need?

It depends on your home's footprint and which sides are most exposed. Each system stages 50 gallons of retardant, covers about 7,500 sq ft, and reaches 100 ft. The map planner shows you the layout, and your technician confirms the final count on site — you can add or remove systems at installation.

What if we can't run it ourselves in an emergency?

The system is designed to be simple enough for any homeowner. For those who'd rather not, our team can apply the retardant for you on red-flag warning or mandatory-evacuation days — just ask and we'll build that into your plan.

    What does the subscription cover?

Everything in one annual plan: professional install, the complete kit, the retardant fill, two maintenance visits a year, a lifetime guarantee on all parts, and free retardant refills if you spray before a mandatory evacuation order.

Will this help with my insurance?

California's mitigation rules increasingly recognize active wildfire defense, and insurers are watching home-hardening closely. We can't promise a specific discount, but an insured, defended home is a home you can keep covered. (Confirm specifics with your carrier.)
